The Detroit Alliance for Fair Banking creates, implements, and supports long-term solutions and strategies that build community and promote individual economic well-being. We encourage and ensure fair banking and lending services are being provided, and that small businesses, urban consumers including people of color who have been traditionally underserved are provided equal access to mortgages and other credit opportunities without exploitation.

The goal of the Detroit Alliance is to provide unbiased advocacy and financial education in five concentrated areas:

Consumer Advocacy - advocate for policy changes that promote asset building for consumers.

Detroit Mortgage Plan (DMP) for Southeast Michigan – ensure that financial institutions comply with fair lending practices by providing a second review process for denied mortgage loan applications and ensuring the availability of equitable products and services for consumers.

Foreclosure Intervention and Default Counseling – provide foreclosure intervention and default counseling for consumers.

Banking the Unbanked Consumer - educate and introduce the un-banked consumers to the benefits of establishing a savings and checking account.

Financial Literacy – Acquisition and Use of Financial Purchase Power: provide financial literacy education utilizing workshops and counseling to empower consumers.
